EXPERTISE

Tax & Revenue Disputes

Legal analysis of tax exposure, transaction obligations and contested assessments.

Tax can change the economics of an investment and the liabilities retained on a disposal. Adad advises on the Qatar legal aspects of tax in commercial arrangements and disputes, working with the client’s tax and accounting advisers to connect the legal position with the underlying financial analysis.

For transactions and reorganisations, we examine tax allocation, information obligations, warranties, indemnities and the treatment of payments. Advice is directed to the applicable framework, the parties and the proposed activity, rather than an assumption that a single rate or exemption applies to every Qatar business.

For enquiries and contested assessments, we examine the decision, its legal basis, the supporting record and the available objection or appeal route. Establishing the relevant procedural requirements and time limits is an early priority. We help develop a coherent position and advise on the documents and representation the matter requires.

For multinational groups, the analysis may also require consideration of Qatar’s global and domestic minimum tax framework and its interaction with the group’s structure. Accounting, calculations, returns and any services requiring separate registration are undertaken by appropriately qualified or authorised advisers under the relevant arrangements.

THE DECISIONS THAT MATTER

01

The applicable framework

Identify the entity, activity, transaction and tax regime before assessing an obligation or exposure.

02

The contractual allocation

Examine who bears the liability, who supplies information and which warranties or indemnities support that allocation.

03

The disputed decision

Establish the legal basis, evidence, procedural route and applicable time limits before choosing a response.
